This would be the start of Giorgio Armani’s ascent on the fashion ladder. In 1970 Armani left his position in Nino Cerruti to set off on his own as a freelance fashion designer.

From Giorgio Armani success of his freelance designing in 1975 Giorgio Armani joined with Sergio Galeotti to create the brand Giorgio Armani, the first clothes created we both male and female ready to wear clothes that were subtle yet classic, and this would begin of the creation of the Giorgio Armani Corporation and see the company move to the USA in 1979.

In the 80’s Giorgio Armani became world famous tailoring the wardrobes for Hollywood blockbusters like “American Gigolo” a film which elevated Richard Gere to heartthrob, as well as “Batman” and the cult classic TV series of “Miami Vice” where the pastel suit of Tubbs and Crockett became one of the Iconic images of the 80’s. The Giorgio Armani suit became something to aspire and something every man wanted to own. The 80’s also saw the creation of Emporio Armani a subdivision of the main label Giorgio Armani. The Emporio Armani label was aimed at a younger audience with jeans price to capture the hearts and minds of the younger audience. In 1985 the Giorgio Armani hit its first major problem the death of major shareholder and partner Sergio Galeotti, Sergio left his share of the company to Giorgio Armani and now he was the sole owner of this multi national company.

The company went from strength to strength competing with the likes of Prada and Gucci for its clientel. The late 90’s saw the launch of the Emporio Armani watch range which would become one of the most sorts after watch brands in the 00’s.
