History of D&G

Dolce & Gabbana, or Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, first began the heady climb to fashion stardom back in 1982 when the two young designers set up their first fashion studio in the capital of fashion of the world, Milan. They worked hard in the beginning, freelance designing for other fashion houses until in 1985 when Dolce & Gabbana were selected along with two other designers to showcase their talents at the Milan Collezioni event. This was to prove to be Dolce and Gabbana's big break - they wowed the crowds and the fashion press alike with their sexy designs. This led to the formation of their label D & G. Dolce and Gabbana's first full collection was released the following year;this would include prints and revealing lingerie - a clear sign of things to come for the direction of the label.

In the late 80's, D&G opened their first show room and with this they acquired a celebrity 'A list' following with the likes of 'The Queen of Pop' Madonna, and Isabella Rossellini wearing the D&G label. This would see the D&G brand elevated to a new haute couture level and signified the D & G label going global.

The 90's saw D&G launch their first range of men's clothing, soon followed by a beach wear collection. The next development for D&G was to prove to be the biggest marketing pull other fashion designers could only dream of - D & G were asked to make the costumes for Madonna's world tour which would later be screened as a film diary. This was the stepping stone to fame and fortune for Dolce and Gabbana who soon after entered their clothes into the American market.

Now in the Noughties, D & G have added perfume, watches and jewellery into the wide brand portfolio. D&G watches have become one of the massive successes of the new century, bringing the D&G elements of fun and sexiness to the world of watch making. D&G's use of Swarovski crystal in the Jaclyn, to simulate the 'bling' look of diamonds, started a revolution in watch design.
