History of DKNY
Donna Karan has become one of the most powerful women in fashion design with she is renowned for designer clothing that is refined and is made to measure. The DKNY label is more fun and was created by Donna Karan to appeal to a young at heart audience.
The beginnings of the DKNY label were like many a long time in the making. Donna Karan began her fashion career as a protégé of Anne Klein in 1974 and would later take over as head designer at Anne Klein when Anne Klein died. Donna Karan would go on to create the Anne Klein II range which was accepted into the fashion world with wide acclaim.
In 1984 after being removed from her post at Anne Klein, Donna Karan and husband set up the Donna Karan New York label and exhibited their first collection 1985. This was the start of something that would change Donna Karan life forever in the Donna Karan label grew on the fact that Donna Karan clothes were designed for women to wear they were practical, yet refined and this was is stark contrast to many of Donna Karan’s competitors. This niche that Donna Karan had found allowed the brand to flourish. However her garments were aimed at high level income earners the elite and so Donna Karan diversified bringing in a new brand which was aimed at a different clientel and so DKNY was born in 1989.
The 90’s saw the company diversify into many new avenues with the creation of DKNY fragrances, men’s wear, children’s wear and much more this would grow the company’s market share and would make Donna Karan a house hold name.
In 00’s Donna Karan was bought out of her company by the giant company LVMH although Donna Karan still remains part of the company as chief designer. Another diversification came in the 00’s with the creation of DKNY watches which brought a touch of DKNY class to the world of watch making. DKNY watches exuded all of the same unique design skills of the designer Donna Karan with watches like the NY3343 becoming firm favourites. DKNY also launched a male range of watches that cater for men who wanted subtle style and panache without the boldness of some of the competitors this can be seen in the NY1140.
Hot watches have selected only the best of the DKNY range of watches for you to view in our catalogue so why not have a look.
