History of Oris watches

The Swiss watch manufacturer Oris have been creating luxury watches for more than 100 years, they have recently secure a deal with formula1 team BMW Williams as sponsor of team timing. This partnership has lead to the creation of Oris’s most popular watch range the F1 range which has become a firm favourite with all F1 fanatics. Oris watches have become popular with Hollywood as well with Keanu Reeves Gwyneth Paltrow and Nicolas cage all avid fans of the Oris watch.

Oris first began in 1904 in Swiss town Helstein, started by Georges Christian and Paul Cattin watchmakers who left the popular watch making area of Le Locle to set up their own company, Oris would launched their 1st watch in 1906.

Oris would spend the next 46 years refining the mechanical movements that would power each Oris watch to such an extent that by the early 50’s these movements would be as accurate as there automatic counterparts. However in 1952 the first Oris automatic watch was released to massive acclaim. This new development would put Oris watches among the higher echelons of luxury Swiss watch brands.

In 1968 Oris would see its automatic movement cal.652 awarded the highest accolade available in the watch industry, and would see the movement receive the status of certified chronometer by the Observatory of Neuchatel. This placed Oris firmly on the map and would put Oris into the top 10 Swiss watch companies.

The 80’s would bring difficult time for Swiss luxury watch manufacturers, the digital watch would become the fashion accessory of the 80’s and would reduce the demand for automatic Swiss watches. However in 1984 Oris would launch the Pointer Calendar to its range of watches, this is still used today in the Big Crown range.

The 90’s would see Oris become a leader in the watch making field creating the first dual analogue display automatic watch the World Timer. This would mark another upsurge in the brands popularity.

Now in the 00’s Oris have expanded on their 90’s populartity to team up with formula1 team BMW Williams in 2003 becoming the teams official time keepers. This partnership would see the creation of the Oris Williams F1 range of watches these would be worn by the pit crew and a limited edition watch would be worn by the driver and this year’s Mark Webber limited edition is a new edition to this range.

Now Oris are a company who can rival with experience and skills that of Omega and Tag Heuer so why not view the catalogue of Oris watches provided by Hot watches and buy an Oris watch today.
