Timex Watches

Timex are the oldest watch maker in America, creating timepieces since 1854 the first timepieces were created under the name Westbury Clock Company. The company was founded in the North East of America initially creating clocks and pocket watches for the nation. In 1914 the company expanded into the growing watch making industry, this market was rapidly expanding as people no longer wanted to carry their watches in their pockets as this was becoming an inconvenience especially for women who did not have pockets.

The Westbury Clock Company continued to expand during the First World War and this greater presence in the market allowed the company to broker its first licensing agreement with Walt Disney to create the first watch that would carry the massively popular Mickey Mouse figure. During the Second World War the company provided its expertise to create time fuses for the Allied war effort.

In 1949 the company rebranded itself and the Timex brand was born, its mission statement was to create affordable mechanical watches for the masses. The brand cemented itself in the 1960's as the leading American watch with massive advertising campaigns that would force the Timex brand into the front of everyone minds.
