History of the Tissot
Tissot are best known for their links to sports and innovation, officially sponsoring many sports star such as Indy Car’s first female driver as well as Nicki Hayden official Moto Gp champion and many other sports as well with time spent sponsoring the Le Man and the Formula1.
Tissot watches were founded in the famous watch making area of Le Locle Switzerland back in 1853. The company was founded by Charles-Felicien Tissot and his son Charles-Emile Tissot the company was small but had big ambition. This ambition would see Tissot create watches for some of the most powerful people of the time, they made a Tissot watches for Tzar Nicholas II and another for Queen Elisabeth I of Belgium.
Tissot would continue to create watches for the rich and famous with a watch made for Carmen Miranda in the 1940’s and many more Royals purchasing watches from the company.
Tissot first showed their skills for innovation with their creation of the first antimagnetic automatic watch which would first go on sale in 1933. This would prove to be a massive success.
In the 50’s Tissot would create the first Tissot watch that would tell you the owner the time anywhere in the world, the Tissot Navigator was another example of the company keeping up with consumer demand.
The 70’s would bring massive change to the watch world and Tissot would be at the head of this change with the invention of the first plastic watch. The first Tissot plastic watch would be launched at Basle in 1971 called the Astrolon. The 70’s would also see Tissot sponsor the Lotus F1 team and the real bond with sport would begin here.
The 80’s would see Tissot once more pushing the boundaries of watch making with the first watch made from Rock. This would be followed by a series of Tissot watches that would be made out of natural occurring resources. Tissot would also launch their first dual application watch with one LCD screen and one analogue screen.
Now in the 00’s Tissot have again surpassed themselves creating the first tactile dial operated watch the Tissot T Touch would bring new functionality to the contemporary watch. The T-Touch would be the first in a range of tactile dial operated watches that Tissot would create. The T-Touch would offer functions like thermometer, stop watch, altimeter this would be the first time these functions would be made accessible through your watch.
